Trezor.io/Start® — Starting™ Up Your Device | Trezór® with handing

A friendly walkthrough and presentation to get your Trezor hardware ready, secure, and connected with Trezor Suite.

Overview — Why Start with Trezor

Secure ownership of your crypto

Trezor hardware wallets place your private keys on a device you control. Starting your device correctly means you keep possession of your keys, generate a secure wallet backup, and minimise risks from phishing or remote theft.

What you’ll do in this guide

  • Set up your Trezor device with Trezor Suite
  • Create and store your wallet backup safely
  • Update firmware and learn the security basics
  • Connect, manage coins, and understand recovery best practices

Step 1 — Prepare

What you need before you begin

Hardware & software
  • Your Trezor device (Model One, Model T, Safe series)
  • A computer or device with a supported browser and the Trezor Suite app
  • A private, offline place to write your wallet backup
Official start page

Open the official Trezor start page for device-specific instructions and downloads.

Step 2 — Install & Launch Trezor Suite

Download and verify

Install the Trezor Suite desktop or use the web app from the official Trezor Suite page. Verify the download if you prefer extra security steps, and always keep the Suite up to date.

Step 3 — Initialize your device

On-device setup

Follow the on-screen steps. Choose whether to create a new wallet or restore from an existing wallet backup. If creating a new wallet, the device will generate your wallet backup (previously called a recovery seed).

Backup guidance

Write down your wallet backup words on a physical medium and store them in a safe location. Avoid screenshots, cloud storage, or digital copies.

Step 4 — Firmware & security checks

Keep firmware updated

Updating firmware patches security improvements and ensures compatibility. Trezor Suite will prompt you when an update is available — follow the official instructions carefully.

Bridge & browser notes

Standalone Trezor Bridge is deprecated in favour of direct Suite integration. Remove legacy Bridge if you have it installed to avoid conflicts.

Step 5 — Daily use & best practices

Sending & receiving

Use Trezor Suite to create, sign, and broadcast transactions. The device verifies transactions on its screen — always confirm amounts and addresses on the hardware display, not only in the app.

Security habits

  • Never share your wallet backup or PIN
  • Keep the device firmware and Trezor Suite updated
  • Buy devices only from the official store to avoid tampering
